2nd Annual College and Career Readiness Day

“Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow”

Preparation is underway for our 2nd Annual College and Career Readiness Day!

In coordination with February’s Career and Education Month, Kearney High School students will be taking part in a full day of college, career, and life readiness. Education Quest’s College Access Grant Program has given KHS the opportunity to plan specific activities for the entire instructional day. Students will prepare for these unique opportunities through  Bearcat Time lessons. Parents and students should be checking their email periodically for updates and important information about transportation and permission forms. It is important to note that this is a required school day. Many businesses are opening their doors to KHS students so our goal is 100% participation for this fun-filled day!

All students will attend college visits at both Central Community College in Kearney and UNK.

Students will participate in Connect the Dots. Connect-The-Dots, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension 4-H youth development program, is an interactive career development program designed to help high school students connect career fields to postsecondary choices and employer needs. This event will be held at KHS.

Students will have a choice in a college visit. BT Advisers will travel with these juniors as they venture out to colleges and universities throughout Nebraska. Some juniors will have an extended day based on their college visit choice. Students were surveyed in December to gather a list of college interests. Tours have been made for juniors to attend one of the following college(s) visits based on that feedback. Students will select their top three choices. KHS will make every effort to match students to their top choice. There is no guarantee that students will get their 1st or 2nd choice.

KHS will be partnering with Junior Achievement Job Shadow. Each senior will be placed in a structured 3 hour job shadow experience in Kearney. Students will be given their placement in Mid-February. These placements are based on the student requests that were submitted first semester. Many KHS Businesses are graciously opening their doors to host many of our students. We are grateful for these partnerships.

11th grade students will eat lunch on campus. Students ARE NOT responsible for purchasing lunch. This is provided.
Additional activities will be tailored to meet the needs of ALL students. For example, Voc Rehab will be working with some of our special education students.
