What Is LEAD?
LEAD stands for Leadership Enhancing Academic Development.

LEAD is a support network of individuals, groups, and businesses with a drive to help Emerson students be successful. The LEAD team recognizes that the community is only as strong as its youngest members. The elementary students of today become the hope and future of the community.

Why Emerson?

The LEAD program provides community-based support to foster students’ academic success. Complementing and extending Emerson’s PTO, LEAD strives to fill gaps in financial support and volunteer services. LEAD was developed in recognition that socioeconomic differences inherent across Kearney elementary schools may impact the level of supplemental support that students receive. LEAD provides an avenue for community volunteers to assist parents and teachers to provide additional learning opportunities for Emerson students via financial or volunteer support. Many schools rely on volunteers to help students enhance their learning by providing small group help, one on one help, or even whole classroom special learning opportunities.

How can I help LEAD at Emerson?
Volunteer.

The first way to help Emerson students is by volunteering your time to show students first-hand that you care about them and want to help. Volunteering demonstrates to students that their future is important and that they are important.
A few ways that you might help when volunteering include:
• Reading to classes and/or individual students.
• Working with students on flashcards.
• Tutoring small groups of students on a variety of subjects.
• Sharing about your career.

If I can’t volunteer how can I help?

The LEAD team realizes that not everyone can donate time. With busy schedules, volunteering during school hours might not work for you or your business. If you would like to help our students at Emerson, financial and in-kind donation make a difference:
• Sponsor a field trip. Emerson students benefit from experiences within our community and state that they might not otherwise have.
• Contribute school supplies that benefit our neediest students.
• Help purchase technology that assists student learning.
• Donate money for books to promote reading at school and at home.

The goal of LEAD

LEAD’s goal is to invest time and resources to help Emerson students as they work toward building the foundation to their academic development.
With the help of LEAD, Emerson teachers will find ways to enhance student learning and provide support so that every student can reach their potential.
