 Kearney Public Schools has hired Jason Calahan as principal for Buffalo Hills Elementary starting in the 2019-2020 school year.  Calahan is a proven leader and brings 15 years of experience to KPS.

 “Jason has the expertise, personality, and experience to lead his new team in targeting student achievement and exceeding growth goals,” said Kent Edwards, Superintendent.  “He will be an outstanding addition to our district Leadership Team and I am confident the students and parents of Buffalo Hills will welcome him to our school community.”

 Since 2012, Calahan has served as the elementary principal for Hershey Public Schools in Hershey, Nebraska.  Prior to that, he was Assistant Principal/Activities Director at Hershey High School.   Calahan taught Geography and coached at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas and Taylor High School in Houston Texas.

 “I am eager to be a part of Buffalo Hills, Kearney Public Schools and the Kearney community,” stated Calahan. “I strongly believe education at all levels must begin with positive relationships. I am excited to work with the Buffalo Hills students, staff, and parents to continue building an enriching, educational environment.  I look forward to welcoming the students to Buffalo Hills in the fall.”

 Calahan received the Region IV Distinguished Principal of the Year Award in 2015-2016 from the Nebraska Association of Elementary School Principals.  He is a member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Nebraska Association of Elementary School Principals, and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators. He was elected President of NAESP in 2017-18 and serves on the Executive Board of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA).  

 Calahan was raised in Morrill, Nebraska.  He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Master of Science in Educational Management from the University of Houston.

 Calahan is replacing Chelsea Feusner,  who took the position as Kearney Public Schools Director of K-5 Education.   He has a wife, Julie, and two sons, Caden (7) and Conner (5).
